Born on October 20th 1902 [Newmarket 3b:457] to John and Letitia Annie WATTS (née HAMMOND) of Lansdowne House, Newmarket. His father died on 27th July 1902 and mother re-married in 1911 to Kempton Walter CANNON.

1911 census...Aged 8, he was at "The Belt", Newmarket, with his stepfather Kempton Cannon [34] motor engineer born Houghton, Hunts; his mother Letitia Annie [42] and sister Doris Edith WATTS.Mother and sister born in Newmarket.

In the 1939 register the family had moved to 8 Princess Avenue, Hove, Claude was a an M.I.S.T.D. dancing teacher, stepfather Walter K CANNON[4-11-1879] jockey/motor engineer; mother Letitia A [27-1-1865]


Stationed at RAF Lakenheath, Claude died as the result of a road accident near Mildenhall. His home address was given as 8 Princes Avenue, Hove. He is buried in the same grave in Newmarket as his Aunt, Sarah Jane HAMMOND (née WATTS)

Claude was half brother to Harry WATTS who died during WW1. see here
